How To Create Effective Slide Deck in Powerpoint And Keynote

slide decks

Powerpoint and Keynote both come with many transitions and effects on the slide deck that are meant to enhance the presentation. Unfortunately, most of them do not do much to improve the experience of your audience. In fact, they can make your slides appear boring and uninteresting. Instead, use subtle page flipping or droplet transitions to keep your audience interested. Using transitions consistently is your best bet. However, if you feel compelled to use such effects, they should be limited to specific scenes.

Creating A Slide Deck

There are some things to consider when creating a slide deck. First, avoid using graphic designer templates, as these will lead you down the slide deck highway to hell. Instead, use images and fonts that compliment your brand and are appropriate for the type of presentation you’re presenting. Incorporate the principles of the rule of thirds into your slide deck design. This way, you’ll be able to keep your slides organized and visually pleasing, and still stand out from the competition.

A slide deck is most effective when it follows a simple rule: one idea per slide. Textual elements should support this idea, while images should add visual interest without distracting from the content. Using the simplest graphics and effects can add an extra spark to your presentation. The average slide deck contains fourteen slides and 25 words per slide. For best results, use pictures to enhance the message and avoid using too many words or too many charts.

Slide decks can be incredibly helpful tools for presentations. They not only guide the audience through the content of the presentation, but they also act as a reminder of key ideas and graphics. For startup founders, the use of slide decks dates back to the early days of Silicon Valley, when founders would reach out to investors with a projector. The screen reflected a minimal amount of data on a wall.

Structure Of A Slide Deck

It’s critical to develop a good deck structure. A logical presentation makes it easier for your audience to understand and retain your message. In fact, structured information is recalled 40% more often than non-structured information. Not only that, but a well-organized presentation also helps you stay on track and avoid awkward silences. Here are some tips for building a successful slide deck structure. And if you want to improve your overall presentation, try these tips:

One of the golden rules of presentation structure is to present one idea per slide. Use images and textual elements to reinforce the main idea of your presentation. This will establish a cohesive narrative and reinforce the most important aspects of your presentation. Lastly, keep it simple and consistent. Most slide decks are composed of 14 slides with an average of 25 words per slide. To make your presentation more professional, try to use the same font size, spacing, and font across all of them.

While the structure of a slide deck is the first step, you can also organize your slides by using sections. These sections will group your slides into meaningful groups. Assign slides to colleagues and outline your presentation. By using sections, you’ll be able to assign slides to different audiences or use the same deck for multiple presentations. And because you can share the presentation with other attendees, you’ll be able to make it a better-organized presentation.

Adding Images To A Slide Deck

Adding images to a slide deck is easy and quick with the PowerPoint software. The first step is to locate the media placeholder on a slide and click the image you wish to use. Alternatively, you can download an image and replace it with a photo from your computer’s photo library. If you want to use an image that you took yourself, you can open it in Finder or select it from a nearby iPhone. To add multiple images to a slide, you should hold down the Shift key when clicking.

Once you have the image, you can style it with the different types of slides in PowerPoint. You can add images to any slide type, including content and question slides. If you’re using the Pro plan, you can also add background images. To insert an image, you’ll need to navigate to a content or question slide and click on the “Image” field. In PowerPoint, you can also upload an image or choose a picture from one of the libraries. If you’ve got a computer, you can also copy and paste a slide into Word.

You can also change the size and shape of the picture frame to suit the slide. The default frame is a rectangular shape but you can change it to a square, circle, or any other shape you wish. If you’re creating a multiple-choice question, you can also upload a picture to each option. You can add as many pictures as you want, but only four can be displayed on a single slide.

Adding Objects To A Slide Deck

Adding objects to your slide deck is as easy as double-clicking the object placeholder on the slide. The object placeholder is a special place in a slide layout where you can insert various special objects to improve the appearance of the slides. If you do not have any special objects on hand, you can choose from clip art. Clip art is a picture you can insert into your presentation. To use clip art, you can open the Microsoft Clip Gallery from the menu bar.

Using images to add text is easy in PowerPoint. You can browse to an image on your computer and choose it as the object to insert into your slide deck. PowerPoint automatically scales the image for you. Changing the color of an object can make it stand out or share your brand colors. For example, if you want to share your logo with a client, you can change the color of the object to match the background color.

You can also change the size of your slide by dragging the corners of the boundary. This change will apply to all the slides in your map. In addition, you can choose to export a slide to a variety of image file formats. When exporting a slide, you can choose to export it to an image file as a PNG file. To do so, right-click the slide and check the Transparent background box. After that, you can resize the image to fit in the slide.

Adding Text To A Slide Deck

In PowerPoint, you can add text to a slide deck by creating a text box and then adding text to it. To create a text box, click the Insert tab and then choose Text Box. After that, you can change the text in the text box by changing the font, size, style, and color. Here are a few examples of text boxes you can add to a PowerPoint slide deck:

You can also add placeholders in a slide deck. One placeholder is the Content placeholder, which can be used for anything. The other placeholders are for specific objects. The “Content” placeholder is the catch-all, which allows you to use any object in this placeholder. You can use this placeholder to add the text for a slide, but you can also use other placeholders for specific objects. In PowerPoint, you can also add captions and images to a slide to make it more readable.

Think-cell text boxes are another option for adding text to your slides. They function similarly to PowerPoint text boxes, but differ in the way they are laid out. They are dynamically adjusted as text is entered and maintain relationships with other elements on the slide. This means that you don’t have to manually position any text box on the slide. It automatically centers the text box and automatically adjusts its width, so it will fit on the slide with minimal effort.

Importance Of A Slide Deck In A Sales Pitch

An effective slide deck is an important element of any sales presentation. It helps a salesperson present a clear strategy, a roadmap to success, and proofs of traction and validation. The first slide should outline the main problem a prospect faces. Then, use charts and graphics to further illustrate the problem. For example, a startup may be looking to solve the problem of an existing industry, so the first slide should discuss the problem and how a startup can solve it.

If you want to create a winning sales pitch, make sure your slides are eye-catching and informative. Change the font and use impact colors and icons to grab the attention of your audience. For example, the Launchrock sales deck uses red and blue colors on a black background, and dedicates entire slides to each data point. The best sales pitches are straight to the point and emulate the overall sales narrative.

While a sales presentation serves as a guide, it is also an opportunity to make an impact on the audience. It can help the audience understand the value of the product or service and why it is necessary to invest in it. Using a slide deck does not replace the sales pitch; it is an additional resource for the salesperson. However, it should not be robotic, and it should be used in conjunction with the sales pitch.
